Sivan Magen, The Versatility of Sound Production
(Sun., July 1, 4:30-5:30 pm)
Instead of the search for one kind of "good sound", different possibilities of finger-string contact and the full palate of colors will be explored for a harpist to use in the service of different kinds of expression that a score demands

Laura Sherman, Bach Basics for Harp Lecture/Master Class
(Mon., July 2, 11:30 am-12:30 pm)
Creating responsible and inspiring transcriptions of Johann Sebastian Bach’s glorious music for the harp can be challenging. Come learn how to efficiently make your own transcriptions and how to get started with performance practice issues such as ornaments, phrasing and tempo. After an initial lecture-demonstration, I will coach two harpists playing Bach transcriptions of their own, or of others (including, but not limited to Grandjany’s).
Laura is a harpist with the Broadway production, WICKED, and teaches as an adjunct harp instructor at Hunter College, NYC.
Sara Cutler, Mock Orchestral Audition
(Mon., July 2, 4:00-5:00 pm)
Preparing for an audition for a job or a conservatory? Bring your orchestral (symphonic, opera, ballet) repertoire excerpts to NYC Ballet and American Symphony Principal Harp, Sara Cutler. Prepare as few or as many as you'd like, along with a short solo work and get some practice at the difficult art of auditioning.
Sara is the Principal Harpist for the New York City Ballet Orchestra & American Symphony Orchestra, and teaches on the faculties of Bard College and Brooklyn College Conservatories of Music.
Cheryl Ann Fulton, The Art of Articulation
(Mon., July 2, 2:00-3:00 pm)
All harpists performing on solo harp or harp in ensemble are welcome. Of particular interest to me are historical harps as well as 16th- 18th century repertoire performed on modern pedal harps. I will choose 4 harpists to work with for about 15 minutes each. Emphasis will be on articulation and appropriate performance practice.
Cheryl is the founding President of the Historical Harp Society. She specializes in triple, medieval & lever harps. She is also a PolyGram, Deutche Harmonia Mundi recording artist.
